Just a short drive from the center of Cartagena a wonderful little pueblo called Manzanillo del Mar can be found. We really love this place and can often be found strolling around on the weekends. Up until recently I thought that the secret of Manzanillo was known just to a chosen few ... well, it seems I was wrong.
What could you do with 1800 Square Metrers/19375 Square Feet of land?
Some of the most up-market developments currently being built in Cartagena can be found in this neighbourhood: Barcelona del Indias, Cartagena Laguna Club, a Jack Niklaus golf course just to name a few are all currently underway. Two reasons for this sudden interest in Manzanillo:
1) There is literally no more room in Cartagena central area (the walled city, Manga, Bocagrande, Castillogrande, ecc.), and
2) People are now more interested in fresh air, gardens, clean sea and nature and not the tall sky scrapers of downtown.
The only negative aspect to all these wonderful developments are the costs; the average cost of a 1600 square feet 3 bedroom house is around USD 350,000 and up, an apartment of 1800 square feet plus a balcony has a current going price of USD 412,000 -- now that's a lot of cash for a holiday home, AND if you're thinking of buying a home like this as a rental property, forget it!
